Dental Hygiene and Teeth Cleaning
Lansdale, Harleysville, and Souderton, Pennsylvania
Everyone should already know that brushing and flossing twice a day is the best way to keep tooth decay at bay. While this is still a very important aspect of dental health, you must make sure you are getting professional teeth cleanings at the dentist’s office regularly in order to ensure continued health and avoid the damage that can come from unchecked decay.
At Towamencin Dentistry, Dr. Stephen Sulzbach and his family-friendly team work hard to educate each patient on the important steps that keep smiles their healthiest. We want to make sure you are using proper dental hygiene techniques at home, and coming in to see us at least twice per year for professional bacteria removal.
At-home Tips for Good Hygiene
Most people choose to brush and floss in the mornings and before bed, but it is also a good dental hygiene practice to brush after all meals and snacks. To get the most from your at-home dental hygiene, make sure you brush every tooth, covering every side, and rinse afterward. When flossing, thread the floss between every contact (where two teeth meet) on both upper and lower rows of teeth. This will help prevent cavities that require dental fillings and dental crowns.
We recommend using a soft-bristled brush to avoid removing enamel and using toothpaste with fluoride. Replace your toothbrush at least every three months for maximum effectiveness. If you are having trouble flossing, try using floss picks or a different type of floss for easier threading.
What Professional Cleanings Can Do
Even if you have great dental hygiene habits and you rarely eat or drink sugary snacks, bacteria is always collecting on the teeth and gums. This is unavoidable and usually produces invisible layers of plaque that are too strong for your toothbrush to remove. While using fluoride rinses and electric toothbrushes can help, the power of a professional teeth cleaning session is simply unmatched.
With our special equipment, we are able to remove hardened layers of plaque and clean under the gums. Also, the dental exam and digital X-rays help Dr. Sulzbach spot issues that could endanger your health. Remember that early diagnosis and treatment could protect you from expensive damage control treatments later and help you keep your smile beautiful.
Our team is excited to give you a sparkling clean smile and a comprehensive dental health review.
